About the Regional Invention Awards
The Regional Invention Awards honour engineers and researchers who have produced outstanding inventions and designs, with the aim of encouraging and fostering invention in each region and contributing to the advancement of science and technology and the promotion of regional industry.
It is a historic award programme that has continued since 1921 (Taishō 10). Organised by the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation, a public interest incorporated foundation, it is carried out across eight blocks nationwide (Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Kinki, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu). Eligible works are inventions and the like that have been patented or registered as utility models or designs and are in practical use.
As a core undertaking of the Institute—founded in 1904 (Meiji 37)—it carries a tradition of over 100 years, contributing to the revitalisation of regional innovation and the development of the next generation of engineers.
